After this sign, Jesus will be seen coming in the clouds. His four angels will gather his elect from the earth - it is the great and mighty Day of the Lord, when judgement falls upon the whole earth. (See Rev. 6:12)
This follows the earlier sign (the 4th trumpet) given in Rev. 8:12, when a third of the sun, moon, and stars were smitten and darkened.
