Bible Prophecy
Elijah the Prophet to come
Est. date written:
Est. date fulfilled:
430 BC
The prophet, Elijah, was first mentioned in Scriptures in 1 Kings 18:1, written about 863 BC. Then, in 2 Kings 2:11, it is written that he "went up by a whirlwind into heaven", written about 852 BC.
Over 400 years later, a prophecy is given through Malachi, promising that Elijah will be sent "before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord".
He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and children to the fathers
"lest I come and smite the earth with a curse".
Most scholars believe Elijah will be one of the Two Witnesses, who will also return in the end times. It seems likely Enoch will be the other Witness, because he and Elijah are the only two who never died but were taken up to heaven.
